Values you need for an accurate calculation
The calculator needs distance and fuel used for the same interval. It performs the calculation in the browser and does not retain the entered values after you leave the page.
- kilometres and litres for l/100 km
- miles and US gallons for mpg
- optional unit price for trip cost
Formulas for l/100 km and mpg
For metric units, divide litres by kilometres and multiply by 100. For US customary units, divide miles by US gallons. Adding the unit price calculates the fuel cost of that same interval.
Why one result is not a long-term average
Treat the result as one interval, not the permanent consumption of the vehicle. Partial fill-ups, idling and an unusual route can all move a single calculation away from the longer average.
